Compatibility and available ports for IBM AIX platforms

There are different FlagShip ports for IBM AIX systems. Since the OS releases 3.x and 4.x are incompatible to eachother, you have to choose the FlagShip port corresponding to your used operating system:
 
  • FlagShip for AIX 4.x 


    • This version requires IBM AIX 4.1 and newer. You can use it on IBM (or Bull, Motorola, Apple) Risc6000 and PowerPC systems with AIX 4.x.  For developing with FlagShip, the "C set for AIX 4.1" is required, see details in the section REL of the FlagShip manual. It may also work with gcc, but we cannot guarantee it - see details in the Support FAQ file. Produces statically linked executables.

  • FlagShip for AIX 3.2  


    • This FlagShip port requires IBM AIX 3.2. You can use it on IBM (or Bull, Motorola, Apple) Risc6000 and PowerPC systems with AIX 3.2 and newer.  For developing with FlagShip, the "C set for AIX 3.2" is required, see details in the section REL of the FlagShip manual. It may also work with gcc, but we cannot guarantee it - see details in the Support FAQ file. Produces statically linked executables.

Please choose the FlagShip port carefully according to your used system. Using a FlagShip port incompatible to your AIX system may cause unpredictable behaviour. 
Note: the C compiler is required only for the development, but not for the user of your application, which only needs the by FlagShip produced executable. See also section SYS.1.2 of the FlagShip manual for further details how to customize your application.
The required disk space on the /usr file system is approx. 15 to 35 MBytes for the FlagShip installation. Check the available space with "df -k  /usr" .

There are free licenses for test/evaluation purposes, see the price list and license terms for additional details. When you already own FlagShip license and want to upgrade to another AIX system, contact your dealer or multisoft.
